Beginner Classes
(5-7 Yrs)
Experience the joy of dance!
prep / BEGINNERS ballet
Ballet is considered the foundation of all other dance styles and it is highly recommended that students take a ballet class even if focused on other styles. This class is specifically for students in PREP at school who wish to start dance classes with a more structured ballet focus. It builds the fundamentals of the technique required for Pre-Primary Ballet, and students only attend class once per week. This is the ideal ‘beginners ballet class’ and a great starting point for any Prep students.
pre-primary ballet
Children enrolled in this class still attend only one class per week initially, with those that are considered ready being invited to sit an assessment when exam time comes around (this is not compulsory). The assessment for Pre-primary Ballet is an introduction to exams (no marks) and students who wish to participate will receive further info when exam nominations are due. NB: Students must be a minimum of 5 yrs old as at 1st Jan, 2021 to be eligible for an exam
This is the first formal ‘ballet’ level, and is recommended once children have started school. Prep students who have already been learning dancing for a year or more are sometimes ready for this class (older ½ of prep); otherwise new dancers from Grade 1 at school are encouraged. Ballet is considered the foundation of all other dance styles and it is highly recommended that students take a ballet class even if focused on other styles (Beginners Tap & Jazz is also available from this age).
beginners tap
This class is an introduction to the world of tap dancing. It allows children to explore the fun and amazing way their feet can produce sound and rhythms while still learning the basics of socialisation, turn taking and gross motor skills. Many students team their Prep / Pre-Primary Ballet class with the Beginners Tap (and/or Jazz) class to experience all the styles of dance available.
beginners JAZZ
For those children who see themselves dancing more like “The Wiggles” or “Hi-5” than “Angelina Ballerina”! Focus is on fun and coordination with flexibility and basic dance movements introduced. Fun, boppy music is used and the class is full of energetic movements and having a good time. Of course, children are more than welcome to enrol in both ballet and jazz streams from this age, and many students combine Beginners Jazz and/or Tap with a Prep / Pre-Primary ballet class.
BEGINNERS hip hop
The latest dance style that mimics those moves seen on film clips and music shows. Incorporating popping, locking, breaking and freestyling – these classes are for anyone who wants to ‘move like Usher, Omarion & Michael Jackson!’
Lots of fun and less structured than your traditional dance class, there is room for each students own personal flare and style
